The Republican-controlled United States Senate is set to vote on Thursday afternoon on the nomination of Kash Patel to serve as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.

Recall that Patel has been among United States President Donald Trump’s most controversial nominees for the position.

Senate Republicans appear ready to have supported him throughout his confirmation process with minimal pushback.

During his confirmation hearing, Patel notably broke with Trump on the issue of January 6 pardons.

He told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he would not have pardoned anyone who committed a violent crime in the country.

“I have always rejected any violence against law enforcement,” he said as he specifically referred to violence against law enforcement on January 6.

“I do not agree with the commutation of any sentence of any individual who committed violence against law enforcement.”
