Three staff members of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, have been dismissed by the Governing Council of the institution for gross misconduct, including result alteration, sexual harassment and abscondment from duty.

At the 171st regular meeting of the university on March 12, 2025, the decision was approved and announced in an official press release signed by the institution’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismail Yauri.

He explained that the disciplinary action aligns with University’s strict “zero tolerance” policy for unethical behaviour.

According to the statement, the decision underscored the institution’s dedication to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and students.

The statement added, “UDUS, one of northern Nigeria’s leading universities, has consistently emphasized ethical standards among its staff and students. The latest dismissals serve as a warning against violations of the institution’s code of conduct.”

Efforts to obtain further comments from university officials regarding the identities of the affected staff and potential legal actions were unsuccessful as students have reacted with mixed opinions— some commended the university’s firm stance on discipline, while others called for more transparency in handling such cases.
