The three-time African champions have been drawn into Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

What Yobo said

Yobo revealed that the Super Eagles need to gather early points, which could set the tone for the rest of the tournament. With Tunisia being the most experienced team in the group.

“A good start is very important. The first two games are very important. It is very, very crucial,” Yobo told ESPN.

He continued, “But the Tunisia game could be the one that decides group winners. So if we can take six points from the other two, we don’t want to chase Tunisia.”

Nigeria’s encounter with Tunisia is expected to be the most challenging of their group stage. Tunisia is a consistent AFCON contender, with a history of strong performances in the competition.

According to Yobo, the game against Tunisia could ultimately decide which team finishes top of Group C.

“That is obviously a big game. They are an experienced side, always frequent at the AFCON. We are used to them, we have played them many times, even during my own time, and they are used to us as well. So it’s going to be a big clash. It’s the biggest game in our group,” he said.

While Tunisia may be the favourites in Group C, Yobo also pointed to the potential threat posed by the so-called underdogs, Uganda and Tanzania.

“On paper, they might be the underdogs, but we saw at the last AFCON, underdogs were pulling surprises,” Yobo remarked.
