French President, Emmanuel Macron has said a truce between Ukraine and Russia could be reached in “the weeks to come.”

Macron, however, warned that Western allies must ensure Russia honors its agreements.

The French leader said this in an interview with Fox News on Monday.

“It’s important first to have a truce. I think it could be done in the weeks to come,” Macron said.

“I think it’s feasible to have a truce at least and start negotiating for a sustainable peace.

“But we need something substantial for Ukraine, for the Europeans and the security, for the US and its credibility,” he added.

Meanwhile, during the ceasefire period, Russia and the West could negotiate security guarantees for Ukraine.

After that, they could have a peace treaty, which Macron said the West must ensure Russia doesn’t violate it.
