Manchester United former defender, Rio Ferdinand, could not believe how frail the Red Devils’ defense was on Saturday when they played Everton in the Premier League.
DAILY POST reports that the Red Devils defensive frailties were once again highlighted during the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.
Rio Ferdinand picked out Harry Maguire for criticism for his role in Everton’s goals.
Manchester United equalised through Manuel Ugarte, who scored his first goal for the Red Devils, and captain Bruno Fernandes.
Everton had taken the lead with two goals in the first 33 minutes with Maguire’s slow reactions and lack of awareness contributing to Everton’s second goal, scored by Doucoure.
Maguire’s lack of urgency was evident, prompting the former Red Devils defender to express his disbelief at half-time.
Ferdinand said (via Givemesport): “You cannot stand there, you have got to run back towards your own goal. I couldn’t understand that at all. I know that pace isn’t a part of his game.
“Then he gets a second opportunity to deal with it and doesn’t deal with it. But you’ve got to run back.
“Look at Doucoure. Doucoure’s up before Maguire. Maguire’s just waiting for it. An experienced centre-back like that, Manchester United have been so poor, so passive in all actions in the game.
“What have I just witnessed.”
Manchester United remained 15th in the Premier League table with the one point from the game against Everton.
