Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is on the verge of leaving the club for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
Leverkusen and Al Nassr are reportedly deep in negotiations for the 23-year-old forward, who is also open to joining the Riyadh-based club.
“There is this situation, and I understand that. There are discussions with the club,” Alonso stated during his press conference ahead of Leverkusen’s Champions League clash with Sparta Prague. “We have to wait. We’re preparing for the game without Boni, of course.”
Boniface, who recently signed a contract extension with Leverkusen until 2029, has been a key player for the Bundesliga champions.
However, reports suggest that the German side is demanding a fee of €50 million for his transfer.
Should the deal go through, Boniface will join a star-studded Al Nassr squad featuring the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané.
The Nigerian international’s move highlights the growing trend of top talents heading to the Saudi Pro League in lucrative deals.
