Victor Osimhen gets some blame for Galatasaray’s defeat to Ajax.

Victor Osimhen’s performance against Ajax has come under scrutiny, despite the Nigerian scoring the Cim-Bom’s only goal in the 2-1 defeat.

Galatasaray beaten in Netherlands 

Okan Buruk’s side fell at the Johan Cruyff Arena, which cost them an automatic qualification to the round of 16. They are now fated to go through the playoffs, where they will face another Dutch side in AZ Alkmaar. 

The Super Lig champions are one of the favourites to lift the competition, hence the opprobrium when they failed to clear the first stage with ease. 

Osimhen, being the team’s talisman, could not avoid criticism despite scoring to make it 2-1, with Turkish journalist Tanju Colak criticising him for his all-round play. 

What was said 

Following the match, Colak questioned the Nigerian’s involvement in general play, suggesting he should have remained in the box awaiting delivery 

“Galatasaray had difficulty scoring against Ajax. Because Osimhen is not doing his job,” he submitted, per GsGazette. 

“He is trying to make his teammates play with the ball from outside the penalty area. Don’t do that. Play close to the goal so that you can have a position in the 6-yard box and send the ball to the goal. Icardi can do that. You are not technical like Icardi.”
