Former Arsenal goalkeeper, Jens Lehmann has told Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca that he would regret saying that he would bench Filip Jorgensen if the goalkeeper plays long ball and not short to the defenders as planned.
Recall that Chelsea supporters were not happy with Jorgensen and booed the players when they were playing from the back during their Premier League 4-0 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Maresca was quick to signal from the touchline that Jorgensen was doing well and asked him to stick to the plan.
Speaking at his post-match interview, Maresca said the 22-year-old shot-stopper has been warned that he will be benched if he plays long balls.
Speaking on the development, Lehmann said Maresca shouldn’t have told Jorgensen that he would be benched.
“I was surprised that the Chelsea coach used that phrase. To be honest, probably he will regret that because it is not about playing a certain style. It is about winning a game,” Lehmann told talkSPORT.
“They won that game but they have not won every game. That is probably why they are not up to it right now, to win a trophy this year.
He added, “They are still fighting to get into the top four.”
Jorgensen has been starting Chelsea’s games for the past few weeks ahead of Robert Sanchez.
